Public Enemies Movie

26 February 2008

Hollywood is coming to Downtown Columbus!

Johnny Depp and Christian Bale will be filming in Downtown Columbus. It continues to appear that the First National Bank will be a site of a robbery. This historically significant building continues to be a site of great interest by Public Enemies Productions and Universal Studios.

Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are both expected in Columbus in mid March. The entire downtown business district is currently being prepared and will be used for filming. This major motion picture directed by Michael Mann will be in theaters sometime in 2009.

The movie is a screen adaptation of Bryan Burrough's 2004 book "Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34." It describes the FBI's transformation when confronted with crime sprees by Dillinger, Charles Arthur "Pretty Boy" Floyd and Lester "Baby Face Nelson" Gillis.

"Columbus is going to play a prominent part in 'Public Enemies,'" Scott Robbe, executive director of Film Wisconsin, said Tuesday.

This building currently houses West James Gallery, a studio for local artists as well as the Columbus Visitor Center.
